odio flyer

Digital - 420x297mm - 2017

Jon from Odio asked me to draw a flyer. I first met Jon when Odio toured Australia. I read somewhere that they are Zouo fans and I had recently made a small run of Final Agony stickers just to see if I could make ones better than the sticker my friend in Osaka gave me. The stickers I made looked amazing. When I walked into the venue, I asked Stu where someone from Odio was, he pointed out Jon, I gave the stickers to Jon and scuttled off to watch a band play because I have the social skills of a startled mouse. After Odio played I introduced myself to Jon mentioning I was the sticker guy, he asked if I was going to the show the next night, I said ‘no’ because I had to look after my dog (Buddy was probably going through one of his multiple phases of health problems at the time) and I could only be irresponsible for one night. He shook my hand and said ‘that’s the best fucken reason I’ve ever heard for missing a show’… or something along those lines.

I like Jon. During Varning 2017 I was wearing a shirt with the Life/Gauze artwork I did and a girl noticed it, asking if I went to the show, I informed her that I did the drawing and proceeded to show her my artwork, which is essentially what I do whenever I first meet a person. As I was showing the drawings to the stranger (Amanda), Jon strolls by and whisks her away saying ‘oh don’t talk to this guy he’ll show you photos of his dog for 2 hours’. I was about to say that I wasn’t, but really, he was right. Showing photos of my dog is generally what I do right after showing my drawings, and I’m way more enthusiastic when it comes to talking about my dog than my drawings. I’m assuming by what he said that the night before I must have punished him hard with all the dog photos (I keep several hundred in my phone at all times to show strangers, and the strangers are not allowed to walk away until they have submitted that my dog is the most adorable in the world). When Jon and Amanda were in Australia I organised a drag bingo session for them and friends, it was a good time, although I feel they would have had a better time hanging out with my dog.

I like the woodblock print kind of effect the drawing has. The band logo isn’t by me, I just squiggled around it
